About Life Challenge
Life Challenge is an organization whose mission is to help individuals & families who are struggling with alcohol & drug addiction issues. In India, LC was started in 2003 in Bangalore and has since expanded to Vellore, Manipur, Nagaland & Kerala with a combined bed capacity of over 125 beds. These residential centers offer a one year addiction recovery program for men to break free from bondage to alcohol & drugs. Over the last 7 years, a couple of hundred men have gone through the LC studentship program.
In addition to residential men’s centers, LC works among women & children who have been affected by addiction issues. In Manipur, a HIV Widows self-help project is run for young women whose husbands died of addiction & HIV. Also there is an active children’s ministry to conduct prevention programs among the vulnerable children. In Chennai, LC has a children rescue project among the street & railway children, conducting awareness programs for the children, many of whom are addicted to dangerous chemical products.
LC is also actively involved in spreading awareness about addiction, and since 2009, LC teams have visited 45 cities & towns in India, conducting awareness programs in schools, colleges, churches & community halls through various outreach events. LC is also involved in training addiction counselors and is working on a IADC (International Alcohol & Drug Counselor) program which will be the first ever credentialing center in India for addiction counselors.
In the US, LC is working among Indian/South Asian families who are struggling with addiction, by providing counseling help to individuals & families.
About LC Banquet
Life Challenge is faced with a huge task in India, which has over 72 million people addicted to drugs & alcohol, i.e, one out of every 5 families directly affected by addiction, and as a result millions of women & children facing abuse & poverty. LC is one of the very few ministries dedicated in fighting this powerful enemy. Requests for LC ministry has come from many cities in India, not only among the adults but also to save the millions of street children, majority of whom are sadly addicted as well.
The 3rd Annual Banquet is the main fundraiser for the many different Life Challenge projects, that will provide the much needed resources to successfully continue the battle against addiction. This year, in addition to the many different projects within the present centers, LC is opening a men’s center in Hyderabad & Allahabad and opening a special school in Manipur.
